Diagnostic Accuracy of Recto-Sigmoid Index Evaluation on Barium Enema in Hirchsprung’s Disease

Background: Hirschsprung’s disease is a congenital caused by the absence of ganglion cellsin bowel wall, which results in functional obstruction aganglionic segment due to failure ofrelaxation during peristalsis. The recto-sigmoid index on barium enema may constitute diagnosis ofHirschsprung’s disease.Aim: To evaluate sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative value ofrecto-sigmoid for patients who underwent enemaexamination.Methods: This retrospective study was conducted Dr Soetomo Hospital. Medical records patientssuspected Hirscsprung’s both examination diagnostic fullthickness biopsy were evaluated. Moreover, (PPV), andnegative (NPV) calculated.Results: A total 37 examined; 21 them male. average age 24.5 (SD 17.34,range 1 month-72 month). Biopsy revealed cells 32 (91,8%) patients. rectosigmoid agreed with histopathologic 30 (81%.) specificity,PPV, NPV 87.5%, 40%, 90.5% 33% respectively.Conclusion: Recto-sigmoid evaluation diseasehas poor accuracy.
